Welcome to my world...

So the beloved said to me last night "you haven't blogged the toilet paper incident yet?" "No. Should I?" Apparently I should. Erik is now at the point where if he's left alone for any amount of time he'll get into whatever he's not supposed to. This time it was the toilet. I'm hoping we'll learn to keep the door closed soon. I think what is best about this pic (apart from the fact that he's just about to shove another piece in his mouth) is the distance over which he has scattered shreds of paper.

Goodness, his left eye really does turn in, doesn't it? We've got an appointment with an ophthalmologist in May to with luck he'll let us know if we need to do anything about it. The 'anything' will be patching the good eye for a while to make the turning one stronger, which, while it's obviously a better option than surgery, i can't imagine he's going to love it at all.

D'Arcy had a spectacular little boy event last week. He was buggering around in his classroom (it was raining, believe it or not) with a mate, who grabbed him and catapaulted him into his desk. Result: teeth/lip interface and lots of blood. Two neat holes in his bottom lip where his bottom teeth went in and two more marks below. I don't think they went all the way through - I think the marks are from his top teeth - imagine if you bite your your bottom lip - your top teeth are below your lip, and your bottom teeth are on your lip. Or something. Of course, despite being the injured party he was the one who "got in trouble". His teacher isn't very understanding, and he was being an idiot before it happened, so I can kind of see her point, but a little more sympath would be nice, and a little more even handedness - I don't think anything happened to the other kid who probably played the "I was trying to stop him running" card. Grr.

edit Forgot to add: Ezz iz not longer a vampire. His top teeth are coming in at last. Left one is first, but right is not far behind. And he'll be 10 months next week.

The Boy Wonder does a similar trick with the toilet paper given half a chance. He's developed several super-powers (think Sylar without the eyebrows, if you're a Heroes fan) but his favourite one is Super Chaos Sense: he can look at any room and instantly find the most chaotic and irritating thing he could be doing, and then do it. It's uncanny.

The BatPup has a similarly in-turning eye, and we were told (when we eventually bothered to ask about it, since it was barely noticeable) that it's probably too late to do anything about it. It may affect her ability to pilot a starship, but she can still get on board as a xenobiologist, so that's OK.

And the advantage of homeschooling the EDoD is that when the teacher is unfair, she can't complain to the parents, because they're all in it together. Makes it much easier to gang up on her...

Heh. I haven't watched Heroes since the first season, and I miss it a lot. Of course it's too late to catch up now!

At least while they still crawl there's a bit of directional warning as to where they're going, but yeah, same deal.

So many advantages to homeschooling I'd never've thought of!

Oh man... our dog does the same thing. It took us a while but eventually we DID learn to keep the door shut.

Great pic...love the toilet paper extravaganzas.

Hey, I can't remember when E's bday was, but as a former-cross0eyed person myself, just wanted to point you at some research somewhere out there in google-land re needing to correct this problem before a year or so, or else binocular vision can fail to develop (such is my problem). It sucks....I had the surgery in first grade but that was waaaay too late, apparently (Rachel had her's as an infant and does much better).

Miss you guys! Come see us!

Julie, we're learning, slowly. Also learning to put stuff away and close cupboard doors.

Sara - his birthday is early June, and the appointment is in mid-May. The paediatrician isn't too worried, and suggested that it might need patching. It's not that severe, and it's in both eyes. Left is the worse one, especially when he's tired... I remember Rachel having slightly wonky eyes when you folks were here (did she have eyepatch glasses?) but I didn't know you had a squint too. We miss you too, not sure if we can do a visit though. Maybe you should come here while you're still relatively mobile.
